The First Orbit

In 1961, Yuri Gagarin passed over the launch site near the Aral Sea at 6AM, before sweeping over the Pacific Ocean on the night side of the Earth and emerging into sunlight again over the Southern Atlantic. His ship then soared across the African continent and the Middle East, before returning to ground at 7:55AM, just north of the Caspian Sea.
