Rex McCandless, a successful motorcycle racer prior to the Second World War, built his own motorcycle which ultimately became the prototype for his “featherbed” framed bikes. His design was used in the most famous machines built by the Norton Motorcycle Company.

McCandless worked on the frame design, improved it, and called it the ‘Kneeler’. This final was used in a host of machines which version went on to break world speed records.
