His innovative practices paved the way for modern sculpture, and he firmly believed that art should be true to nature. It was this philosophy which shaped his attitudes to models and materials. The scandals surrounding his works; The Age of Bronze or the Monument to Honoré de Balzac and for his unfinished projects like The Gates of Hell, only served to burnish his legend...
