Motorcycle Cannonball 2012 – a coast to coast adventure.

The run this year, in the interest of scenic beauty, was routed through my neck of the woods, the upper Midwest, and it was cool to see it come by at point-blank range.

Many of the riders are justifiably nervous about the route they’re taking, so catching up to them is no mean feat. But we did just that on Sunday. Thanks to my pals Chris Clark and Tom Larson for all their help as we tried to catch the riders for an impromptu, outdoor-studio photo shoot. It wasn’t easy to make it happen, but well worth the effort.

The 2012 route includes a dozen national parks and forests, the great lakes, the Mississippi river, the plains, the Black Hills, Rushmore, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, the Rockies, the high desert, Shasta, the Avenue of the Giants, Pacific Coast Highway, and the Golden Gate Bridge to name a few.

The awesome rolling roadshow also includes planned stops at four nationally recognized motorcycle museums only the 300 miles per day trip.

Competition? This is more than just a dog-and-pony tour of pretty bikes. The run is against the clock, and only one rider and one machine will take home the laurels.

The run began the 7th of September 2012…
