When the Ironhead Sportster first appeared in 1957, it boasted a high-tech four-cam OHV design. Built to improve reliability with cast iron cylinder heads, it was a shot across the bow of the challenge laid down by British bikes which were dominant at the time. Hot rodders and customizers immediately set to work looking for ways to increase the “ironhead’s” performance and take on the Triumphs.
