The Motorcycle Thief
Scott Veretto just likes stealing motorcycles.
But it looks like his passion has come to a screeching halt. Veretto, 32, was recently nabbed trying to collect a stolen motorcycle he’d left in a parking lot, at least according to the police. New Mexico detectives say they were monitoring Veretto at the time and called him one of the most prolific motorcycle thieves in Albuquerque.
He stands accused of taking more than, at least by his count, 70 motorcycles over the course of his checkered career.
Following Veretto’s arrest, detectives took a search warrant and found another stolen motorcycle – and equipment used to alter VIN numbers – at his home.
Veretto reportedly told a detective that he really enjoys stealing motorcycles and was very proud of his ability as a car thief. He added that he “steals for the thrill, not for the money.”
Back in 2009, Veretto was nicked for stealing gasoline and at the time, officers discovered a methamphetamine pipe, prescription pills, and burglary tools in his possession. Back then, Veretto was hit with charges of driving on a suspended license, burglary from a tow yard, possession of burglary tools, identity theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After all, it’s not like he’s new to the game.
Veretto is being held at the Metro Detention Center in Albuquerque without bond.
