Do Something Positive For Your Fellow Riders and Sign This Petition

If you check us out once in awhile, you know our take on the heinous, unconstitutional practice that is the “motorcycle only checkpoint.

In a nutshell, the motorcycle only checkpoint is a road stop set up purely to harass motorcyclists under the thinly-veiled pretext of undertaking “safety” inspections by the authorities. Cagers get a pass, bikers have to stop by the side of the road – generally without regard to any sort of reasonable suspicion of wrongdoing – and in the process, the United States Constitution takes a poke in the eye.

This kind of stop is no less than profiling, and we all know what that really means. “Profiling” is the usual excuse authorities use to stop motorists without due cause and subject them to unreasonable search and delays. If you’ve ever been through one, you know how annoying and pointless they can be in terms of accomplishing what the authorities say is their stated purpose.

U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) is on board with riders as he urges members of the U.S. House of Representatives to sign a letter addressed to the leadership of the House-Senate Surface Transportation Reauthorization Conference Committee to include H.R. 904 in the conference report.

So what is H.R. 904?

It’s a little gem that would prohibit the Secretary of Transportation from providing grants – or that matter any taxpayer funds – to states or local governments they can use to pay for motorcycle-only checkpoints.

So what can you do to help out and make sure Sensenbrenner’s H.R. 904 becomes the law of the land?
