The Krugger Half Day

Some custom bike builders just know how to pare down a machine until it sings a siren song.

Top-flight custom motorcycle builder Fred Krugger Motorcycles, a Belgian outfit, fall into that category.

The firm’s workshop is located hard by the Spa race track, and it’s in that shop that they forge a unique brand of motorcycle which is at once slimmed down to the essence of what makes a motorcycle move and styled up to perform as a modern machine.

Krugger built this bike, the Overmile, to recall the lines of the Harley-Davidson XR 750 as the builder cites that model as his favorite from the Motor Company over the years. Powered by a 103″ S&S engine and a Baker 6 speed transmission, the Overmile is tricked up with air ride shocks, Beringer In board brakes and twin scrambler-styled stainless steel exhaust. This beautiful tribute to a legendary American model line carries its two gallons of fuel in a rear-mounted fairing. The frame and the swingarm were both fabricated by Krugger himself, and the bike’s front end and suspension feature Öhlins front forks and a retro styled headlamp.  Krugger selected 21″ front spoked HD Wheels and 20″ rear wheels which ride on Avon tires, and was painted by El Cheapo in a delightful cream color.

The Half Day was designed for the 50th anniversary of engine manufacturer S&S. It sports the kind of old-school charm common to many of the Krugger bikes, and I want one the way a dog wants a bone.
