Get On Your Bad Motorscooter and Ride Arizona Iraq War Vet Clocked at 150 mph on Highway
In a story which reminds me of the days when servicemen returning from duty in WWII bobbed their motorcycles and hit the open road on a quest for speed and thrills, an Arizona veteran of the Iraq war was clocked doing twice the speed limit around midnight on the highway.
“In the 17 years I’ve been in law enforcement, this is the fastest vehicle I’ve ever seen,” said the officer who made the arrest.
That takes some doing, and it’s going to cost him a bundle of cash to get back on the right side of John Law for his “inattention.”
Abraham Torres, a former Marine, told officials at the scene that he’d just returned from Iraq and had no idea how fast he was going when they began their pursuit. Clocked at 150 miles per hour on his Yamaha R1, more than twice the legal speed limit, Torres was ultimately tracked down and arrested.
The officer arrested Torres, 27, of Tolleson, Arizona around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Officials say a department police cruiser followed Torres until the point he exited the highway.
While this video is not of the Torres pursuit, it should give you and idea of what a police vehicle is up against trying to track down an R1 determined to get away:
