She’s a Bonneville Salt Flats regular, owns her own motorcycle dealership, holds a world record, and she’s the Fastest Woman in the World on a motorcycle.
And an insurance agent?
Leslie Porterfield currently holds the Guinness World Record as the Fastest Woman in the World on a Motorcycle and owns and manages High Five Cycles in Dallas, Texas.
Feeling ashamed of yourself yet for your lack of accomplishments and motivation?
“I’m an extremely motivated individual. I am passionate about my trade and my racing because it has opened many doors for me. It has taken a lot of hard work to get where I am, and continues to be hard work to maintain and go further,” Porterfield said. “I feel very fortunate because I am able to do what I love.”
Porterfield began her racing career at the tender age of 16 when she bought a bike from a neighbor $200. Never having ridden before, she taught herself to ride, and later made the scene at a motorcycle road racing school where she was, in her words, “instantly hooked.”
“When I heard of the Bonneville Salt Flats it sounded like a perfect fit. I set a goal to go over 200mph, and then it snowballed into multiple records,” Porterfield said. “What I enjoy about land speed racing is there are no gender classes.”
Porterfield notched her own entry as the Fastest Women in the World on two wheels when she reached 232.5 mph on her Hayabusa at Bonneville.
“The traction is a constant difficulty and the surface changes so much,” she said. “I spend a lot of time in the off-season cleaning up my bike from the salt. The bikes have to be torn down to the bare frame and cleaned thoroughly.”
